Sept. 9 and 10 – World Lit

I was out for these two days. Below is the information that all students received from the substitute:

  1. Begin with 20 minutes of independent reading

2.  Work on / finish your fairytale rough draft. Write it on your own notebook paper. I will check for it before we begin typing the final draft on Tuesday. The finished rough draft will be a formative assessment grade.

3.  Keep all of your papers in your binder.

4.  With your reflection essay and other writing, I found that there was a substantial issue with pronoun/antecedent agreement and comma usage.

    • Pronouns must agree in gender and number. Be sure to READ the examples and rules at the top of each page.
    • Pronouns must have an antecedent. Remember that a pronoun replaces a noun, so you must have a noun earlier in the sentence (antecedent: ante – is a prefix meaning before) for the pronoun to replace.
    • Commas are used with a conjunction when you have TWO independent clauses/simple sentences combined into one sentence.
    • In other words, you need a SUBJECT and VERB / comma and conjunction / a second SUBJECT and VERB
    • See the example I annotated on the worksheet.
